Storm Ophelia Ireland Worst Storm on RecordThousands are still without power and three people have died following Storm Ophelia, the worst storm in recorded history in Ireland. With a second day of disruption in Scotland and North East England due to fallen trees and debris blocking train lines and roads.

Ireland was on complete lockdown on Monday, with violent winds of more than 96 mph which caused widespread damage to electricity networks, uprooting trees and damaging properties.

Two men and a woman were also killed in separate incidents in Northern Ireland due to the storm.

Authorities in the Republic and Northern Ireland have said schools should remain closed for a second day to ensure the safety of children and staff as the full extent of the storm damage still unknown.
